Session ref: Drib 4
Set up- as above, work on a grid size of 15yd x 10 yd ( different for different aghe groups). A plays into B and closes down, B has to score through goals in each corner. If A wins the ball he has to dribble over B`s end line.
Set up enough grids so players are working in groups of no more than 4 ie every 30 seconds they are working
Progression
2 A defenders engage attacker B to play 2 v 1. To start with B can use his other player to bounce ball off but this other player cannot join in
Progression
Play 2 v2 and then finally progress to 2 attackers v 3 defenders
ENCOURAGE FLAIR AT ALL TIMES
Set up
Bring in goals, either fullsize for larger players or small goals for smaller players
Split the players into 2 teams and number each player. The coach serves the ball in from the side and shouts the numbers of the players to play 1 v 1, 2 v 2 or 3 v 3.
Make the practice nice and bright the players have no longer than 10 seconds to beat a player and get a shot at goal
Rotate the players quickly
Make a condition for the goal to count that the shot must have followed a 1 v 1 situation in which the attacking player has been successful and beaten the player that he was up against
ENCOURAGE THE PLAYERS TO BE INVENTIVE AND TO TRY MOVES AT ALL TIMES- LOOK FOR ALL THE MOVES YOU HAVE WORKED ON IN PREVIOUS DRILLS
Session ref: Drib 3
Set up - As Above
Players work in pairs each with a ball, stood either side of a cone.Players work together in ¼ turns round the cone on the coaches signal. Moves to perform step over(out to in), scissors (in to out), double step over, double scissors, matthews (move the ball with the inside of the r/foot towards left and then take ball away quickly to the right with the outside of the right foot. Perform this move with both feet. Make sure these moves are performed quickly at a high tempo- Players will get a physical workout from this performed quickly
Set up
Organise the players into groups of 4 as per the detail opp, each player with a ball. A & C work together as do B and D. A & C set off together dribbling balls towards centre cones, toe tapping using as many little touches as possible. At the centre both players perform r/f step over, move ball to right and then exit by toe tapping. While A & C are working B & D keep the balls up in the air, as soon as A & C have finished working B & D perform same exercise
Perform variations as listed
Exercise to centre Exercise at centre cones Exercise on outside
Toe taps Step over Ball in air
Pull push Scissors Foot slides
Tiny touches Matthews Toe taps
Foot slides Drag scissors Pull push
Note: Focus on the quality of the movements, do not ask the players to increase tempo until they can perform the moves correctly.
Progression: remove the centre cones and have players dribble at each other
Set up as opposite
Players now play 1 v 1 between four cones, set up enough cones so all players are working at same time. The player with the ball must dribble left or right and touch the outside cones with the ball before defending player touches inside cone. Have 3 goes each and then swap over. Player on ball can keep swapping direction and use any moves that he wants. Coach gives the signal of when to start which can be verbal or visual such as throwing a ball up in the air
